The Carbon Rating Agency has announced the appointment of Christiana Figueres, a leading UN climate negotiator and expert on the Clean Development Mechanism, as Vice-Chair of IDEAcarbon’s Carbon Rating Agency, and Chairman designate of Carbon Rating Agency USA.
Christiana Figueres is one of the most experienced CDM experts in the climate change field. She is a former member of the CDM Executive Board, has been an official negotiator of the United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Kyoto Protocol since 1995, and is currently Vice President of the UNFCCC Bureau. Figueres has been a member of the Carbon Rating Agency Rating Committee since early 2008, and will now take on the additional role of Vice Chair of the Carbon Rating Agency. She will also be responsible for building the Carbon Rating Agency’s work in the USA.
Speaking in response to her appointment, Ms Figueres said “by enabling market participants to understand and quantify risk, the Carbon Rating Agency is playing a key role in the evolution of the carbon markets. I am looking forward to playing a central role in expanding the work of the Agency as we start to rate important and complex new instruments such as Programmatic CDM, and as we build our business in the rapidly developing US carbon markets ”.
Announcing the appointment, Ian Johnson, Chairman of the Carbon Rating Agency, said “we are delighted that Christiana Figueres has decided to scale up her work with the Carbon Rating Agency. The Carbon Rating Agency’s work requires the input of highly experienced individuals with hands-on experience of the risk factors that affect the success of carbon reduction projects.
