Developing countries have been calling repeatedly for significant long-term financial commitments to help them deal with the effects of climate change, and the developed world has been repeatedly telling them that they'll be putting a cheque in the post just as soon as they can work out how much each country is willing to fork out.

COP president Connie Hedegaard resigned on Wednesday morning, saying that the arrival of so many heads of state and government has meant that the negotiations should be presided over by someone of equal status. Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen has stepped in as COP president.
